TIC Council India is pleased to present to you the final part of our ESG webinar series. The topic of our third webinar will focus on green hydrogen.
Objective:
The demand for hydrogen reached an estimated 87 million metric tons (MT) in 2020, and is expected to grow to 500–680 million MT by 2050. But there’s a catch: over 95% of current hydrogen production is fossil-fuel based, and very little of it is “green”. It is only now that green hydrogen production technologies are seeing a renewed wave of interest, as it brings with itself immense potential in bringing down overall carbon emission levels
With respect to the Indian landscape, the Green Hydrogen Policy was notified by the Ministry of Power in 2022. However, adequate financing and lack of R&D remain critical concerns. Any policy on green hydrogen introduced should also take into account the importance of conformity assessment, which provides consumers fully reliable information on the hydrogen supplied to them and can encourage companies to commit to using green hydrogen. Standardisation and certification also allow and support the development of green hydrogen trading, and to accelerate the development of an international market.
Themes of the webinar
- How a policy framework can encourage the use of green hydrogen.
- How the TIC sector can effectively collaborate with developing countries to accelerate the use and adoption of green hydrogen projects (focusing on how can green hydrogen projects be made commercially viable).
- The World Bank’s developing mechanisms to certify green hydrogen along the value chain and how TIC Council can contribute as a valuable partner to this initative.
